So how did you spend your weekend?
Me? I spent it ‘running for a good cause’.
And so we had our 4th CMS Tribal Run on 5 August 2018 and for the 1st time, we held it at our headquarters, over at Wisma Mahmud. Never missing any of our runs since I joined the CMS Family, I looked forward to joining 2018’s edition and without fail, I brought along my favourite running ‘kakis’ (my mum and sister) who have been supporting our runs since CMS Tribal Run 1.0.
This year, a new category was added – 3km Family Run – and with excitement, I signed up for it. I wanted to give my legs a rest after joining the SVA 1.2 Siyok Run at Saradise the previous weekend. It was also because I liked the sky blue colour of the 3km’s lanyard. Hehe!
Our Tribal Run 4.0 garnered close to 3,300 participants from the whole State, with the runs also held at Sibu, Bintulu, Mukah and Betong. For Kuching’s, we had our Group CEO – Operations, Mr Goh Chii Bing flagging off the 10km category whilst Group CEO – Corporate, Dato Isaac Lugun and Group Executive Director, Datuk Syed Ahmad flagging off the 5km and 3km categories respectively.
It was definitely a joy looking at the excitement from the runners, some who brought their children and infants in strollers. Quite a handful dressed up according to the tribal theme which I have to give them ‘props’ for running in, despite the not-so-friendly weather. These bunch truly deserved their well-earned vouchers!
As it was my first time running (more like continuously jogging) a 3km route around Wisma Mahmud, I was impressed how the route was clean with almost no litter sprawled around, regardless during the route and at Wisma Mahmud itself where we were handed out drinks, buns, bananas and everyone’s favourite ‘old school’ ice cream. Where I come from, we call it ‘Air Batu’. It was definitely nostalgic. I had the milo-flavoured whilst my mum and sister had the lychee-flavoured, and slurping on them, after a run, on a rather humid day, was fantastic.
I have to give many many thumbs up to the CMS Tribal Run committee for coordinating and organising such a great event. A lot of thought (especially for us runners) went into the pre-, during and post-event. I still have friends telling me how great our run was and many have already informed me to give them a head’s up for next year’s run. You guys did a fantastic job! Thanks team!
