Today’s launch of East Malaysia’s First Integrated Cement Plant by YB Datuk Amar Awang Tengah deputising for YAB Chief Minister went well.
Enormous sense of pride amongst our Cement Division staff who looked great all in a sea of either orange or grey shirts and the event was well-staged by our team as usual. The most special moment was paying tribute to YBhg Datuk Amin Satem, who had been the CMS MD when the first cement plant was launched in 1978 and who had kindly attended. Our work to build this plant pale against the obstacles and efforts Datuk Amin faced to get that first plant up and running. The moment was, I think, especially poignant for him as it had been his dream in 1978 to have an integrated plant, not just a grinding plant, and it took a lengthy 38 years to get there! Now with 3 plants, let’s’ hope tightness of cement supply becomes a thing of the past so we can always provide uninterrupted support for the State’s infra development.
