Corporate Governance is a process and structure implemented by companies and businesses to achieve business prosperity and sustainability while ensuring corporate accountability, with the ultimate objective of realising long-term shareholder value, taking into account the interests of all stakeholders. In order to realise a comprehensive and rigorous anti-corruption corporate culture, there is an urgent need for Malaysian companies and businesses to put in place preventive measures that reinforce ethical leadership, good governance, transparency, accountability and respect for the rule of law in their operational procedures.
In view of the recent national spotlight on corruption, Group Internal Audit decided to take on fraud as the key topic for our annual workshop this year.
In 1890, a house was burnt down to ashes by the river in Mukah. Two decades later, it was built again and in 1999, the house was transformed into a homestay until today, Lamin Dana Cultural Boutique Lodge is a jewel in the heart of Kampung Tellian, Mukah.
What better way to make Malaysia Day more memorable than to give back, make a difference and doing good for the community? That could be anything from volunteering at a soup kitchen or selling goodies at a fundraising event.
This is what 53 volunteers from Kuching Toastmasters Club, corporate partners, friends and family did! They volunteered as facilitators to mentor 175 students from 23 schools in Kuching, Bau and Kota Samarahan at the 7th Kuching Toastmasters Youth Communication Camp held at Kem Juara, Serian.
I smile each time I reminisce about my running journey. I still have vivid memories of the 1st CMS Health Run at Tunku Putra School back in 2012. I was in pain and had literally collapsed the minute I reached home! There and then, I decided to make health a priority (err, clearly I was in poor shape) and to do that I needed to make time for exercise.
So how did you spend your weekend?
Me? I spent it ‘running for a good cause’.

Hence, this year, Group Internal Audit took on the topic ‘Business Ethics’ for their workshop instead of the usual bread and butter topics like fraud, internal control and governance issues.

CMS annual management retreat was held this year from 23 to 25 October at Samalaju, Bintulu. This round’s participants were very privileged as this was the first time the management retreat was held outside of Kuching.
A total of 68 employees including the senior management team, secretaries, managers and senior executives from the various divisions participated in this year’s retreat.
During the retreat, we received valuable insights from our esteemed leaders and I would like to use this platform to share my personal experience about the retreat and some of these insights I gained, with the CMS family.
The 2018 Malaysian Budget was presented by our Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also our Finance Minister, on 28 October 2017. The budget speech contained proposals that were subject to a Bill being gazetted after being tabled at the Dewan Rakyat (House of Representatives) and Dewan Negara (Senate).
Young and energetic teenagers started filling the Kuching Civic Centre with laughter and loud chatter from as early as 6.00am while waiting for their respective buses to depart for Kem Juara PLKN, Serian. “The Campers” as we call them were accompanied by their teachers and facilitators.
