Since January 2016, Sarawak had experienced heavy downpour which resulted in homes being flooded or affected by landslides, particularly during a high tide phenomenon.
This time of year, CMS Roads and my dedicated crews are on standby throughout Sarawak; ready to spring into action for any incident affecting State Roads.
On the 19th of February, Kuching and surrounding areas experienced heavy rainfall over a sustained period of time creating the perfect conditions for landslides and embankment failures. The Tapah area was hit particularly hard with over 90 failures between the 19th and 21st of February, as on previous occasions the crews led by Senior Operations Executive, Mr Kelvin Ng and Tapah Operations Executive, Mr Jetphre Ak Empali worked tirelessly to get all roads passable on the same day.
